At age 18, I co-founded New Zealand contemporary film lab The Black and White Box. My co-founder’s continued passion for the art of film processing, coupled with my growing ambition and interest in the world of branding, were the recipe for the lab’s success. Today, The Black and White Box continues to be New Zealand’s leading lab for the countries top artists and creative minds.

As a small business with limited resource, all creative aspects of the business were managed, and often executed, by me – the branding, the social media, the order forms, the signage, the campaigns – the overall creative direction across every touchpoint. Although the creative became my forté, I spent many hours collaborating with my co-founder to expand the business commercially – build relationships, collaborate with partners, develop internal processes, organise events, and create opportunities.

My time working on The Black and White Box awarded me such a vast array of experiences and skillsets at a young age, that by the time I exited the business aged 22, I had gained too many experiences to recount on one page. This time left a lasting impact on me – this being my first foray into my craft is the reason I am fortunate to be doing what I am today.

Below you will find the highlights of my work during my time with the brand.
