Co-Founder and Creative Director
The Black and White Box
2017 — 2021
As generally green 18-year-old I co-founded contemporary film lab The Black and White Box with a close friend looking for a creatively-minded business partner. TB&WB started out of his garage and today stands as one of the first choice professional labs in New Zealand, producing work for countless national publications and brands many know and love.
Running a business lends itself to wearing a stack of hats, but primarily I was responsible for creative direction across all assets of the brand - identity, content, projects, activation, and events. In addition, I lead marketing strategy, designed all internal and external digital and physical assets, and helped to execute day-to-day business tasks.
With help from my work, as well as the hard work of my co-founder, we established a strong foundation for this brand and have since had many notable achievements. I am still proud of, and humbled by, the growing number to this day. Working with St. Jeromes Laneway Festival and Coup de Main, holding successful events such as The Film Fair and ‘From the Archives’ exhibition in collaboration with Allpress Espresso, sponsoring photography events, and established a highly engaged audience on social media. We’ve also produced album covers for the likes of Lorde, magazine covers, exhibition works, and in general, created a trusted brand that embodies the values those working there hold.

Brand Assistant
Girl Undiscovered
2018 — 2019
My role as Brand Assistant for Girl Undiscovered allowed me to be involved in the another small-business environment, at a time it was popular with an international audience, and was preparing itself for international expansion.
As a Brand Assistant my role was specifically involved in the creative team, within design and content creation alongside the head designer, Hannah Sames, and creative director, legendary female photographer Sara Orme. My work had to speak truly to the free, wild and playful nature of the female-focused brand at every touchpoint, be it a social post or the investment memorandum. Under Sara’s expertise I also enjoyed invaluable lessons on grading, image manipulation, photoshoot assisting which was hugely inspiring as a budding photographer at the time. As a part of the small business culture, being able to sit in on meetings and be a part of conversations at all stages of the business journey; from product ideation to manufacturing, to market, as invaluable for me at a defining point during the start of my career.
