THE BLACK AND WHITE BOX
Co-Founder and Creative Director
The Black and White Box
June 2017 — March 2021
At age 18, I co-founded New Zealand contemporary film lab The Black and White Box. My co-founder’s continued passion for the art of film processing, coupled with my growing ambition and interest in the world of branding, were the recipe for the lab’s success. Today, The Black and White Box continues to be New Zealand’s leading lab for the countries top artists and creative minds.
As a small business with limited resource, all creative aspects of the business were managed, and often executed, by me – the branding, the social media, the order forms, the signage, the campaigns – the overall creative direction across every touchpoint. Although the creative became my forté, I spent many hours collaborating with my co-founder to expand the business commercially – build relationships, collaborate with partners, develop internal processes, organise events, and create opportunities with brand partners.

GIRL UNDISCOVERED
Brand Assistant
2018 — 2019
My role as Brand Assistant for Girl Undiscovered allowed me to be involved in the another small-business environment, at a time it was popular with an international audience, and was preparing itself for international expansion.
As a Brand Assistant my role was specifically involved in the creative team, within design and content creation alongside the head designer, Hannah Sames, and creative director, iconic photographer Sara Orme.
My work had to speak honestly to the free, wild and playful nature of the brand at every touchpoint, be it a social post or the investment memorandum. Under Sara’s expertise I received invaluable lessons on grading, image manipulation, and photoshoot assisting which was hugely inspiring as a budding photographer at the time.
As a part of the small business culture, I sat in strategy meetings and was able to contribute conversations at all stages of the business journey; from product ideation to manufacturing, to market. This was invaluable at a defining point during the start of my career.
